Considerations
- The use of proper
dryer venting materials as well as adequate
installation will insure maximum dryer performance,
resulting in lower electric and/or gas usage.
Also, when clothes are given the proper amount of
air, they dry more rapidly, and are subject to a reduced amount of tumbling, wear and tear. In
order to accomplish these savings, your dryer vent
system must meet the subsequent ANSI codes:
- Dryer vents shall be independent from all other
exhaust systems and vented outdoors
- Dryer ducts must be at least 4" in diameter the
same as the dryer's outlet
- Use
only metal connectors between the dryer and
the exhaust duct
- Ductwork joints shall be secured with metal tape
only, never screws or rivets
- Pipe connections should be installed so the point
in the same direction as the airflow
- All
Concealed dryer ducts shall be rigid metal either
galvanized or aluminum
- The
outside vent cap should have a functioning back
draft damper and a rodent/bird screen
